Stupid people, stupid people.
I've been informed that it's too early to start joking about it, so I'll be serious. First off, if you don't know what happened, visit this article. It's the best I've found so far because it summarizes all the info that other newspapers and sources have found or revealed. ABC News: The Investigation Into the Virginia Tech Shooting.
Two concerns of mine based of the shooting, but not about the shooting itself.
People were texting and messaging each other on myspace and facebook when this happened. Has it occurred to anyone to pick up the phone and call? If I was anywhere close to getting shot, I wouldn't be on facebook for a couple days. Hell, I'm not even on facebook now. And I sure as hell don't care about you if you're idea of making sure i'm ok is by leaving me a note on facebook.
The second concerns gun control. Sorry, I'm totally pro-guns. Actually, I'm totally for the rights of individuals to have the choice of doing something. This holds for all things really.
So the gun-control side of the argument is the same: If there were no guns, this wouldn't have happened.
The gun advocacy side of the argument is the same: If more people had guns (or if guns were allowed), someone could have stopped this from being so bad.
So, I simply ask this question. Do you think it's possible for the absolute eradication of all guns in the United States? If not, you should probably get a gun.
Remember, just because guns are allowed doesn't mean you have to carry one around. The chances are if someone is about to shoot you, someone else with a gun will save you. But don't let anyone remove one of your freedoms in this country. Don't let them take away your guns, don't let them take away your profanity, don't let them take away your fatty foods or your ability to smoke in public.
Keep in mind that the people who are texting you to ask if you're ok are probably the same people hoping gun-control laws are tightened. Why do I say that? Because people who are too self-centered to put forth the effort into really making sure you're okay are probably the same people hoping other people (like the government) will take care of their problems and make them go away.
I wish they'd go away.

I found this on a web search of "stupid people with guns" because I'm really frustrated right now about a guy in my residential 'hood in a "nice" suburb of kcmo that goes out in his yard and shoots his pistol in the middle of the night 2 or three time a month. I have a 9 month old and there's been a rash of chidren killed IN THEIR HOME by stray bullets around kansas city lately namely coming from drunken assholes waving their pistols around carelessly. People that say the things you are saying here piss me off because it's GUN CONTROL, not gun elimination. You really need to compare the statistics of gun related mortality here and in countries that don't allow guns. Most of the pro-gun people I hear are totally fucking paranoid. The guy @ v tech bought his guns with a record of mental illness. That is not right.

Thanks for the comment, Anon. I think the points you brought up are very valid, but I don't agree that they fall under gun control. Those drunken assholes are far from the norm. With gun control, how do you check if someone will be a drunken asshole before you sell a gun to them?
On the other hand, I would not mind harsher penalties for people doing dumb things with weapons. Firing a pistol at night or firing a pistol within X distance of a residential area should have significant consequences. You shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable in your own home. I never like it when someone's freedom to choose imposes another's (otherwise known as common courtesy).
I can understand your desire for wanting to prevent the stupidness before it turns into an irreversible situation, but there will always be a percentage of the population who does something dumb when given the opportunity. Would you want to implement control on who could purchase cars simply because a couple people drove drunk or drove a car with explosives into a building or just went on a psychotic rampage and plowed into a bunch of people? No, because you know most people who drive cars aren't like that. Most people who own guns aren't crazy either.
Welp, Anon, you most likely won't ever be back on my blog to read this, but hopefully the next person to read your comment will consider the arguments for control/elimination vs choice.
