Happy Chinese New Year
It's funny when you walk up to a white guy and say "Happy Chinese New Year" and they're all happy like you accepted them into your culture with open arms are something. No sir, I was mocking you, because you only get to celebrate the new year once. And, your reactions are always classic. Seriously though, I see no reason why I can't share my holidays with those people who have shown interested and appreciation.
Being on a web development team with two other asians, the white guys here have developed a deep sense for our people and culture. My co-worker has stated he loves the culture and even notices when other people are talking about asian people. As in, he gets all defensive if someone mentions asian people and they didn't need to. For example, yesterday, we were at Wendy's and some white guys said casually in conversation "hey, chinese new years is tomorrow". Of course, me and terry raised our heads and eyebrows up really quick upon hearing that, only to find that mike had also peered up alert.
My other friend Tron is like that too. Having come down to Drexel from vermont, his extent of the colored folk is that one italian dude who has sicilian in his blood and looks dark enough that he could be mistaken as a mexican or indian with italian hair. Now in philly, at least half his friends are blessed with extra melanin. He loves us. And our food too.
And hey, I like my non-asian friends because they're my friends, regardless of their star-crossed fate of not being one of us. If it was up to me, the ones who have accepted us asian people with open arms will always be included in our holidays.
Cheers.
